Google Quantum Leap Sparks Bitcoin Debate
Google's quantum supercomputer, Willow, can complete tasks in five minutes that would take classical computers over 10 septillion years—far longer than the universe's age. This has raised concerns about the future of Bitcoin's security, which relies on algorithms like SHA-256 and ECDSA. However, the threat isn’t imminent.
Quantum computing, leveraging qubits, can solve complex problems exponentially faster than classical computers. Willow, with its 105 qubits, represents a major leap in error reduction, but it’s far from the scale needed to break Bitcoin's encryption. Experts estimate breaking Bitcoin’s encryption in a day would require 13 million qubits. Willow would need to scale by millions to achieve that.
Current quantum computers lack the error correction and capacity to disrupt widely used encryption methods like RSA, ECC, or AES. Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies have time to adapt by developing quantum-resistant algorithms. Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin has emphasized updating protocols to ensure resilience.
Google’s breakthrough highlights quantum computing’s potential but doesn't signal immediate doom for Bitcoin. Until quantum technology achieves practical scalability with millions of qubits, Bitcoin and other digital systems remain secure. The race to innovate quantum-proof solutions is already underway, ensuring crypto’s continued evolution in this new era.

Microsoft Bets Big on Embodied AI
Microsoft's Christopher Young, head of business development, outlined the company’s future AI priorities at the Brainstorm AI conference. Key opportunities include embodied AI, robotics, sustainability, and AI infrastructure. Embodied AI, like self-driving vehicles for goods transport and humanoid robots, is a focus, with applications in hazardous jobs like offshore oil rigs. Microsoft's partnerships, including with robotics firm Figure, highlight this commitment.
Sustainability also plays a significant role, with efforts to improve data center efficiency, such as advanced cooling and water conservation methods. Collaborations with Nvidia and AMD, alongside Microsoft’s in-house silicon, drive these innovations.
In AI infrastructure, Microsoft invests heavily in cybersecurity, with companies like Hidden Layer, and in data governance to enhance identity and compliance systems. Healthcare is another promising area, with investments in generative AI for natural remedies and tools to assist cancer diagnostics. These initiatives showcase Microsoft’s expansive AI ambitions.

PayPal Stock Gains Bullish Momentum
PayPal’s stock has seen significant volatility over the past five years, peaking at $310 in mid-2021 before plunging to nearly $50 in late 2022. Since then, shares have rebounded 80%, trading near $90. Bank of America (BoA) analysts, led by Jason Kupferberg, recently raised their price target to $103 from $86, citing progress under new CEO Alex Chriss.
BoA highlighted positive catalysts for PayPal, including potential acceleration in total payments (TP) growth, robust holiday e-commerce data, and expected improvements in free cash flow and share buybacks. February’s Investor Day could also boost investor sentiment. While analysts revised down Q4 total payment volume (TPV) estimates slightly, expectations for diluted operating EPS rose by nearly 6%, reflecting strong performance.
Challenges remain, including competition for PayPal’s “core button” feature, declining Braintree volumes, and global tax changes. However, at 19x forward earnings, PayPal appears undervalued compared to Visa, Mastercard, and Block.
