Arnault Sues Musk Over Content Rights

Europe’s richest man, Bernard Arnault, is taking legal action against X, the social media platform owned by Elon Musk, alleging unauthorized use of media content without payment. Arnault, head of luxury giant LVMH, has joined forces with prominent French media outlets like Les Echos, Le Parisien, Le Figaro, and Le Monde in a lawsuit against X. They accuse the platform of violating “neighboring rights,” a legal provision under European law that mandates payments when news content is republished on social media.

This lawsuit is the latest in a string of actions against tech companies by French media. Last week, AFP filed a similar complaint against X, with a court hearing scheduled for May 2025. The plaintiffs claim X has failed to comply with a May court order to disclose revenue data related to media content use, underscoring its alleged refusal to negotiate. Previously, French media reached agreements with Meta and Google, but these relationships soured after Google was fined €250 million by the French Competition Authority for unmet commitments.

The outcome of this case could heighten tensions between tech giants and European media, raising questions about fair compensation for content shared on digital platforms.

Schwarzenegger Joins Zimmer for Active Aging

Arnold Schwarzenegger is taking on a new challenge as Chief Movement Officer at Zimmer Biomet, a Fortune 500 medtech company specializing in orthopedic solutions, including smart knee implants. Famous for his roles as a bodybuilder, actor, and former governor, Schwarzenegger now aims to inspire older adults to stay active and maintain joint health, an area he understands personally as he has undergone several joint replacements.

Schwarzenegger emphasizes that physical activity is key to prolonging quality of life. “If you don’t move, you rust,” he says, echoing his belief that inactivity hastens aging. His role at Zimmer Biomet will focus on encouraging people to keep moving—whether through walks or gym sessions—as a way to manage aging and avoid chronic joint pain.

Zimmer Biomet CEO Ivan Tornos views Schwarzenegger as a fitting ambassador for their mission. “You want to terminate your pain? Bring in the Terminator,” he quips. With a focus on promoting joint health and mobility, Schwarzenegger hopes to lead a movement for active aging and inspire people worldwide to embrace exercise as a lifelong habit.

INFLATION
India’s Central Bank Eyes Inflation

India’s central bank chief Shaktikanta Das warns of a possible resurgence in global inflation despite recent progress in achieving economic stability. Speaking at CNBC-TV18’s Global Leadership Summit in Mumbai, Das highlighted how central banks globally have managed to engineer a "soft landing" even amid economic shocks and geopolitical disruptions. However, he noted that inflation risks, along with slowing growth, remain significant challenges. According to Das, while monetary policies worldwide have proven effective, threats from conflicts, climate change, and commodity volatility persist. He pointed to the contrasting behavior of global markets—such as the strong U.S. dollar and rising bond yields despite rate cuts—as indicators of ongoing instability.

Das also commented on India’s economy, which remains resilient with projected growth and an expected moderation in inflation. India's Minister of Commerce, Piyush Goyal, added his perspective, suggesting that the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) should consider rate cuts to further stimulate growth. The RBI, however, has held rates steady, hinting at a cautious stance for the near term.

Trump's Hegseth Pick Stuns Pentagon

President-elect Donald Trump's selection of Pete Hegseth as U.S. defense secretary has caused surprise at the Pentagon and confusion among some European allies. Hegseth, a Fox News host with limited government experience, has been vocal against "woke" Pentagon policies and questioned the qualifications of top military leaders based on diversity efforts. His selection raised concerns at the Pentagon, where some officials doubted his qualifications for the role. Democratic lawmakers criticized the nomination, with Representative Jason Crow calling it inappropriate for a TV commentator to lead 1.3 million service members.

Hegseth, however, aligns with Trump's desire to reshape the military by removing generals promoting progressive diversity policies, potentially leading to tension with figures like General C.Q. Brown. European officials expressed uncertainty about Hegseth's stance on key issues, particularly his skepticism toward NATO, which he has criticized in his book. Despite this, Hegseth received support from some Republican lawmakers, including Senators Roger Wicker and Kevin Cramer.
